Two killed in Lakshmipur bus gas cylinder explosion

Lakshmipur, Dec 11: At least two people were killed and two others injured after a gas cylinder aboard a bus exploded while the vehicle was refueling at a gas station in Lakshmipur municipality on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Abul Kalam, 26, the son of Zakir Hossain from Sahapur area, and Rubel Hossain, 28, the bus driver and son of Sahabuddin, a resident of Charshita village in Ramgati upazila.

Police said the explosion happened around 4:00 AM at Green Leaf Filling Station in Muktiganj while the bus was refueling. The blast killed Abul Kalam and injured others, including the driver, Rubel Hossain.

Ranjit Kumar, Officer-in-Charge of the Lakshmipur Fire Service, said that fire service workers, along with local residents, recovered Abul Kalam’s body and took the injured to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. 

Later, Rubel succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

The authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion, while the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination.
