DUCSU polls schedule to be announced on July 29

Dhaka, July 20: The much-awaited polls schedule to the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and residential halls union will be announced on July 29 and the elections is likely to be held in the second week of September.

The university syndicate took the decision in a meeting held on Sunday morning at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on the campus with DUCSU Chief Returning Officer and Professor of Botany Department Dr Mohammad Jasim Uddin the chair.

Attended by representatives from the DU Election Commission, university administration, provosts and deans and representatives of major students’ bodies, the polls returning officer said, “It usually takes 40-45 days to hold the polls after the schedule is announced. We are determined to hold the election within this stipulated timeframe.”

The meeting informed that the commission has decided to conduct the voting at six centralized centres for ensuring transparency and fairness in the DUCSU elections. 

The designated centers will accommodate voters from various residential halls on DU campus. There are as follows:

1. Curzon Hall Center (Examination Hall): Students of Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Hall, Amar Ekushey Hall and Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall will vote there.

2. Physical Education Center: voters of Jagannath Hall, Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall and Salimullah Muslim Hall will vote there.

3. Student-Teacher Center (TSC): students of Rokeya Hall, Shamsun Nahar Hall and Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall will vote here.

4. Dhaka University Club Center: voters of Bangladesh-Kuwait Friendship Hall and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall will exercise right of franchise here.

5. Senate Bhaban Center (Alumni Floor, Seminar Room, Dining Room): students of Sir AF Rahman Hall, Haji Muhammad Muhsin Hall and Bijoy Ekattor Hall will vote at this center.

6. Udayan School and College Center: students of Surya Sen Hall, Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall will vote there.

About the voters’ eligibility, the election commission said the students from the 2018–19 academic session whose master’s results have already been published are not eligible to vote or contest in either the DUCSU or hall union polls.

Meanwhile, the DU authorities have intensified security measures on the campus in view of the DUCSU and hall union elections. 

As many as 50 new CCTV cameras have been installed since June 6, 2025. Currently, a total of 182 cameras are actively working across the campus.

Besides, additional lights have been installed at various locations while the surveillance of the Proctoral Mobile Team has also been increased. 

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-VC (Education) Prof Dr Mamun Ahmed, Returning Officer Professor Dr Golam Rabbani (Social Welfare and Research Institute), Prof Dr Kazi Maruful Islam (Development Studies Department), Prof Dr Nasrin Sultana (Health Economics Institute), Prof Dr Md Shahidul Islam (Banking and Insurance Department), Prof Dr SM Shamim Reza (Mass-Communication and Journalism Department), Associate Professor Sharmin Kabir (Education and Research Institute), Proctor Associate Prof Saifuddin Ahmed, members of the Advisory Council, deans of faculties, representatives of teachers, hall provosts, representatives of various student organizations, members of the executive committee of Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA), among others, were present at the meeting.
